FLASHBACK TIEM! And lo, he took the five billion billion dollars that Tenenbaum so generously offered him for no apparent reason. And after much soul-searching, in the interests of not messing up the timeline, he eventually spent the bulk of it on enough ADAM to give him brain damage.

And thus he forgot his meeting with Suchong and Tenenbaum, and he never got an apartment in Olympus Heights. Can't go Jossing things that've already been established, now can we?
